Anyway I will complete the content on my father and add other photos to the album as I come across appropriate ones. It's then onto my grandfather!
Please let me have any comments..
This blog will cover progress in my creating this website as well as detailing additions to its content. I hope you find it useful.
This the first post to my blog - it's also my first ever blog so here goes. If you've visited my Rigg family website at www.roundheadsandrailways.weebly.com you will have seen some of the content already there. I wanted to create a structured way to show the information about my surname and give an overview of the area - Southwest Lakeland in England - in which these ancestors have lived and worked. Having done this I have started to write about my father Ray Rigg, who as my closest ancestor I have most to write about. It has started to feel like I am writing a biography of him but although it is not yet finished and I have more information to add, I do intend to complete it fully before moving further back in time. Although much of the information already added is particular to him, there is also information of more general interest, take the journey to Egypt from the UK in 1941 on the HMT Cameronia, where he was one of many service people going to war. The news magazines produced during the voyage may be of wider use and interest - I don't know if they have been published before.
Anyway I will complete the content on my father and add other photos to the album as I come across appropriate ones. It's then onto my grandfather! Please let me have any comments..

Hi Michael This site was sent to me in Sydney by my cousin Michael Rigg who lives in Hong Kong. I have been tracing my Rigg family back to the Isle of Man and to Kendal Westmorland to find plenty with the christian names Joseph, John & James Rigg. At this stage I am back as far as 1750s Take Care Joseph Rigg

Thanks for your comments Joseph. Yes, there are Riggs all over southern Lakeland, I do not though seem to have any links to those living in Kendal - although it may be I just haven't discovered them yet! My own recent research into my Rigg line has uncovered a little more about my earliest known ancestor George Rigg whose parents Francis Rigg and Mary Towers were living in the Kirkby in Furness area where Francis was born at about 1731. I fear this is just about as far as researchers will take back my line.
